Bipasha Basu was born in New Delhi, India, to a Bengali family. Although she was born in New Delhi, her family later moved to Kolkata. This 5' 8", light-eyed, culcutta girl, came into the limelight when she won the Famous Ford Supermodels Contest at the age of 17. Bipasha Basu was the second daughter in the family and her pet name was bonny.She joined Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Kolkata for early education and she had a very good time there. She was very good at studies and everybody in her school liked her for her talent and smartness. She also won the Tulips Miss Super Vivacious in the same contest.
This Bengali bombshell is bold enough to accept an unusual role in her debut films. She was a household name much before she entered films. Besides doing innumerable prestigious ads, Bips, as her friends call her, did the famous video ‘Tu...’ for Sonu Nigam’s album, Kismat. Apart from modelling and acting her other hobbies include dancing, reading and helping her mother with interior designing.
She has been dating movie star and model John Abraham since 2002, and recently rumors of their engagement was in the air. International Hera Pheri is her upcoming project this year and it is going to be another hardworking year for her as there are other projects waiting for her.
In 2001 she won Filmfare Best Debut Award and Filmfare Lux New Face Award for 'Ajnabee', and she was nominated for Filmfare Best Actress Award in 2002 for the film 'Raaz' and in 2003 she received a nomination for Filmfare Best Villain Award for 'Jism' and again in 2006 she was nominated for Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance in the movie 'Corporate'. In 2006 MTV Immies she won Best Performance in a Song- Female for 'Beedi'. Her other awards include: Zee Cine Award Dynamic Duo for 'Raaz' (shared with Dino Morea), and Best Actress for 'Corporate' in the Global Indian Film Awards, In 2006 Eastern Eye for the 'sexiest woman in Asia' she was ranked second.
